07_The Model Prayer
After Jesus says, "Give us this day our daily bread," He says, "and forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors." These words should make us more confident, more courageous as Christians. I believe it is in prayer, properly understood, and genuinely offered that we find confidence and security in our salvation, and that we can know we are forgiven of our trespasses. We knew that when we were baptized into Christ because we were baptized into His death, we were baptized Into the remission of sins. (Acts 2:38). And we were as Paul says raised to walk in newness of life (Romans 6:4). The old man of sin was put to death with Jesus.
However, we also know that we are not perfect, that we have not lived sinlessly, we struggle every day with that reality. What Jesus instructs in this prayer is intended to help us in that struggle and realize eternal life.
