The Hour Is Come (John 12:20-26)

Jesus upon entering Jerusalem is approached by a party of Gentile believers. The words spoken in John 12:20-26 were prompted by that visit and must be understood in that context. Why did Jesus suddenly announce that His hour was come?

Zechariah 1:1-6

Zechariah, Haggai's younger contemporary, begins to urge the people to repent and be zealous in the work of God. His is a message of hope and healing. "Turn unto Me, and I will turn unto you, says the Lord of Hosts." 

Haggai 2:20-23

"Once more God will shake the heavens and the earth." This refers to God removing the nations that oppose Him and His Christ. Persia is approaching the apex of its greatness. It will stand another hundred years in strength and domination of the know world, from India to Greece. Yet, Zerubbabel will be as the signet on Gods right hand.

Haggai 2:10-19

The prophet says, "So is this people!" Judah was like an man unclean on account of a dead body. They contaminated all that they touched. Their work in the rebuilding the House of God was without benefit to them unless it came from a heart fully trusting in God. The spiritual activity of rebuilding the Temple did not make them spiritual. It was repentance and faith that would render them spiritual. It was obedience from the heart that would define their building as a holy offering. 

Jesus’ Regnal Entry into Jerusalem (and exegesis of Psalm 118)

IAs Jesus entered into Jerusalem the crowds began to shout "Blessed is the King of Israel that comes in the name of the Lord." These words are taken from Psalm 118 and freely ascribed by the multitudes to Jesus. It is apparent that many believe Jesus is the Messiah. However, were the people's perception of Jesus and the Psalmist's the same? Let's consider what is written about the Christ in this ancient song of hope and praise for the coming Messiah.

Anger Is a Threat to the Home (Matthew 5:21-26)

Jesus in the Sermon on the Mount gets to the heart of the matter. He shows us that it is not just the act that is sinful, but the thoughts and emotions that lead to the act. In this text Jesus deals with anger as the underlying heart problem that results in murder. Being angry without a cause is a great threat to the happiness of any home. We must learn to get rid of and control anger.  

Haggai 2:1-9

A  month has passed since Haggai's first message. It seems as if the people have been over taken by discouragement and disappointment. Discouraged by the difficulty of the work. Disappointed by the hardness of the times. Haggai seeks to stir up their faith to trust in God to provide their needs and to accomplish His purpose in this house.
