BibleTalk with Jeff Asher
BibleTalk with Jeff Asher began in 1988 as a call-in radio broadcast which aired for ten years on KGNC in Amarillo, TX. Later it moved to the internet as a website for articles, class materials, sermon outlines and debates to be downloaded for use all over the world. Now, BibleTalk is still growing and changing, being a podcast for audio and, eventually, video Bible study resources.

The prophet Micah preached in the 8th Century B.C. throughout the region of Judea known as the Shephelah, "the lowlands" of Judah that included the foothills of the Lebanon Mountains and the adjoining plain that runs to the Mediterranean Sea. Like Amos before him, he was not a schooled prophet but a God-called and God-sent preacher. He is called to preach at a pivotal moment in Judah's history. Through his efforts and that of his contemporary, Isaiah, Judah is spared destruction in the impending Assyrian invasion. Their message emboldens the young king Hezekiah to repent and lead a restoration in Judah.

Every fifth Sunday Jeff Asher answers Questions from the Question Box. Two question from Genesis were submitted. The first asked that the two accounts of creation found in Genesis 1:1-2:3 and Genesis 2:4-23 be reconcilled. It is not uncommon for it to be asserted that Moses contradicts himself in these texts. Is that the case? The other question asked about the origin of the nephilim or "giants" in Genesis 6:4. What does the Bible say about the giants? Who were they, where did they come from, and why were they destroyed?

In this final section the prophet gives one final exhortation to repent, to offer up the "calves of their lips" saying "take away all iniquity." God offers to heal their backsliding when they forsake their idols, the works of their hands. If Ephraim will do this, then he shall be as a spreading vine bearing the fruit of righteousness unto eternal life.

Jeff Asher continues his observations on Jesus' interview with the Samaritan woman at Jacob's well. In particular what does the Lord mean when He says: "The hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him. God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth."
