Introduction to Micah

Monday Oct 31, 2022

Monday Oct 31, 2022

The prophet Micah preached in the 8th Century B.C. throughout the region of Judea known as the Shephelah, "the lowlands" of Judah that included the foothills of the Lebanon Mountains and the adjoining plain that runs to the Mediterranean Sea. Like Amos before him, he was not a schooled prophet but a God-called and God-sent preacher. He is called to preach at a pivotal moment in Judah's history. Through his efforts and that of his contemporary, Isaiah, Judah is spared destruction in the impending Assyrian invasion. Their message emboldens the young king Hezekiah to repent and lead a restoration in Judah.

One of the most familiar narratives of Jesus is that of The Rich Man and Lazarus. In this narrative Jesus pulls back the curtain hiding the Hadean realm and gives us a glimpse at death, judgment and eternity. However, do we miss the main point of His teaching? Is Jesus really concerned about revealing where the dead are? Is there a more important and needed answer that Jesus wants to give?

Every fifth Sunday Jeff Asher answers Questions from the Question Box. Two question from Genesis were submitted. The first asked that the two accounts of creation found in Genesis 1:1-2:3 and Genesis 2:4-23 be reconcilled. It is not uncommon for it to be asserted that Moses contradicts himself in these texts. Is that the case? The other question asked about the origin of the nephilim or "giants" in Genesis 6:4. What does the Bible say about the giants? Who were they, where did they come from, and why were they destroyed?

After Jesus returns to Cana from Judea, He is approached by a nobleman whose son is near to death. Jesus in compassion heals the man's son, but not without teaching a great lesson about the character of saving faith.

When it comes to the practice of religion, is every man an authority unto himself, or is there an objective standard to which all may appeal and follow? Jeff Asher answers this question.

In this final section the prophet gives one final exhortation to repent, to offer up the "calves of their lips" saying "take away all iniquity." God offers to heal their backsliding when they forsake their idols, the works of their hands. If Ephraim will do this, then he shall be as a spreading vine bearing the fruit of righteousness unto eternal life.

The Disciples return to find Jesus concluding His interview with the Samaritan Woman. As she is leaving they offer Jesus lunch, to which the Lord responds "I have meat to eat that ye know not off." What food is Jesus talking about?

The churches are said to have multiplied in Acts 9:31. What was the cause of these conversions? Is it possible for the church to multiply in the same way to day? The answer is, "Yes!" Listen and learn about this guaranteed method multiplying the churches.

Hosea 13:1-13

Monday Oct 17, 2022

Monday Oct 17, 2022

The prophet warns Ephraim to not let their pride cause them to reject the offer of redemption in Christ as part of the remnant of Israel.

Monday Oct 10, 2022

Jeff Asher continues his observations on Jesus' interview with the Samaritan woman at Jacob's well. In particular what does the Lord mean when He says: "The hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him. God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth."
