Hosea 1:2-11

The prophecy introduces the reader to Hosea and his family. It tells the story of the prophet and his wife, Gomer, and the birth of three children. It is revealed that two of these children are illegitimate. This sad experience becomes a metaphor of God's relationship to Hhis people Israel.

Stand Fast Therefore... (Galatians 5:1-15)

Paul now begins to make some practical applications of his argument on the superiority of the Gospel over the  Law of Moses. In the first place, the death of Christ is meaningless if justification is through the Law. In the second place, liberty is not freedom from obedience to the Law of Christ. Grace is not a license to sin. Finally, do not allow those who oppose you to seduce into wrangling, lest all be lost. 

The Sixth Wonder of Calvary: The Rending of the Temple Veil

The sixth wonder receives little notice in the immediate context (Matthew 27:50-51), but the Apostle Paul makes effective use of the fact when he instructs Hebrew Christians in the superiority of the Gospel over the Law of Moses (Hebrews 6:19-20; 9:1-14). What is the significance of the veil of the temple being torn from top to bottom?

Introduction to Hosea

Jeff Asher introduces the prophet Hosea. Included in this study is historical background for the book. Asher also gives time to a consideration of all the prophets, Hosea in particular, as a type of the Messiah. 

At Peace with God (Colossians 1:19-23)

The Allegory of Hagar and Sarah

Paul follows up his expression of concern by telling the allegory of Hagar and Sarah. Paul's intent is to convince the Galatians throuh the allegory that those who have believe on Christ alone, whether Jew or Gentile, are the children of promise. Those who turn to the Law, return to spiritual bondage and are cast out as was the "bondwoman and her son." 

I Stand in Doubt of You (Galatians 4:11-20)

Having shown the superiority of the Law of Moses to the Gospel as the means of justification, Paul experesses a serious and genuine concern for the Galatians should they actually turn to the Law for justification. In these verses Paul shows how the Galatians are being manipulated by the Judaizers for their own benefit and to the peril of the Galatian saints. 

The Ideal Wife

The New Testament presents to us a picture of the Ideal Wife in the Church who is "a bride adorned for her husband." We can learn what the ideal wife should be by modeling the behaviour which the Christ affirms of His own bride-the Church.

Amos 9:1-15

The prophet Amos does not preach doom and gloom alone. His is a message of hope. Despite the wicked stubborness of Israel, God will save a remnant through the Messiah that will come from the House of David. 

Amos 8:1-14

Amos reveals the vision of the summer fruit. The harvest is past and Israel is not saved. Jehovah has sworn that He will not pass by them anymore. There is a famine coming, not of water or food, but of the Word of God. They will seek God, but they shall fal never to rise again as a nation.
